Accessibility Committee
The Harcourt Accessibility Committee was formed in response to the Accessibility for Ontarions with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA), where the first standard developed under this act, Customer Service. See www.accesson.ca for a complete Guide for this regulation (429/07)
The five standards that will be legislated are:
- Customer Service
- Built Environment [Community Accessibility Survey (online)]
- Employment
- Information and Communication
- Transportation.
2025 is the year by which full compliance with all standards must be met. Within this time frame each standard has a required time of completion.
The Harcourt Accessibility Committee is in the final stages of implementing the requirements for Customer Service. The deadline for completion is January 1, 2012.
We are also looking forward to the next stage which affects us, Built Environment. To this end we are working as a member of the Harcourt Site Review Team, who will be assessing not only accessibility needs at Harcourt, but also the future space needs for community needs, the work of Harcourt (congregation, committees, staff), and of affiliated groups who use space at Harcourt. Congregational meetings will determine the direction of Harcourt in response to the information gathered.
A joint Accessibility/Property Team has been responding to a proposal from the Enabling Accessibility Fund over the summer.
