Purpose, Vision, Mission & Core Values
Purpose
To welcome and strengthen in community all who wish to serve God’s world and follow the way of Jesus.
Vision
To be an authentic community of spiritual growth and service.
Mission
Inspired by the Spirit, we participate in Christian practices that strengthen us in the building of just, compassionate, and non-violent relationships.
Core Values
Responsibility
We take responsibility for our actions and emotions. As well, we take responsibility collectively for the health and well-being of Harcourt church in the present and for its future. We hold ourselves accountable for the implementation of its mission.
Respect
We acknowledge the value and worth of every person. It is with respect for each other that we learn to accept, manage and resolve our differences.
Risk-Taking
Change is the only constant. We make decisions and take actions knowing that there are no guarantees of success or always being right. We recognize the importance of “letting go”, and not always holding on to what is familiar and safe, in order to be a vibrant and relevant community.
Vulnerability
To achieve authenticity, we risk being vulnerable in the way we communicate and relate to each other. Our common humanity is honoured amidst our fears of not looking good, making mistakes, having problems, or not appearing that we are well put together. Being real and genuine involves knowing ourselves and being open to all that we are.
Trust
Trust contributes to the creation of healthy, safe space in which honesty and truthfulness can be practiced. Without honesty and truth, it is not possible to have genuine conversations about who we are, where we are going, how we are going to get there, our fears etc. We trust we are accepted as we are and that we are deeply cared for by those who are within the Harcourt community.
